Since its inception in 2012, the Tower View Team of Jefferson Matters: Main Street will see its original intent come to life in the coming months.
Committee Member Deb McGinn says they will be installing roof top art on one of the businesses on the downtown square in Jefferson. She states that it’s a part of their concept, “Renewed Dreams”.
The committee wanted to know what the Mahanay Bell Tower visitors were dreaming about by letting them write down their dreams and hopes and place them in a glass jar at the observation deck of the Bell Tower.
Stephanie Hammond, a local artist and former owner of the Crafted building on the north side of the square has been creating an original design from those “dreams” to make it a reality for rooftop art. Ogren’s Custom Graphics, a locally owned business, will be creating the design on material suitable for rooftops and to withstand all types of outdoor weather conditions. The first of its kind will be put on top of Crafted which is owned by her parents, Ken and Sue Bose of Perry.
For the next six to eight weeks, everyone is invited to see a sampling of the dreams that were chosen to the projects by going to various downtown businesses storefront windows which inspired the committee’s offshoot of “Dreams From the Top”.
McGinn believes this idea will help to create cohesiveness for the downtown square and help to draw in artists and other people who want to see a unique attraction from the top of the Bell Tower.
She notes that they hope to have the rooftop art installed as late as next spring.
