The West Central Valley cross-country invitational was held in hot and humid conditions Thursday south of Menlo at the 5 x 80 golf course. The Greene County (Jefferson) girls and Nodaway Valley (Greenfield) boys won team titles.

The Rams had 49 points to finish ahead of four other girls’ teams. WCV was second with 55, followed by I-35 (Truro) 64, Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton 77, and 102 for Audubon.

Destiny Scar of NV won the girls’ four kilometer  individual crown in 16:34.42 with Greene County’s Olivia Hansen second at 17:22.34. Shelby Hunemiller of WCV was third at 17:35.23. Katlyn Holaday of Adair-Casey was fourth in 17:47.10 Other point scorers for the Rams were Emily Christensen (11th), Eme Johnson (12th), Noelle Gray (14th), and Emily Finch (19th).

Shane Breheny of NV won the boys’ five kilometers individual title in 17:15.29. NV went one-two-three with Brayten Funke second in 17:47.76 and Nathan Venteicher third in 17:48.02. Rylan Heffernan of host WCV was fifth in 18:18.98.  Landon Braun led Greene County with a ninth place finish in 18:36.84 and Logan Egeland was 13th in 19:09.13.

NV scored 21 points to win the boys’ team title with WCV second at 76 and Greene County third with 83 points. Woodward Academy was fourth with I-35 in fifth place, A-C sixth, Clarinda Academy seventh, E/EH-K eighth, Martensdale-St. Mary’s ninth, and Paton-Churdan tenth.
