The high school football season for the Greene County Rams begins on Friday, August 29 when Coach Dean Lansman’s Rams host South Central Calhoun (Lake City) in Jefferson at Linduska Field. The Rams are hoping to take the rough edges from the Aug.22 Sports Drink Scrimmage vs. Panorama (Panora) and work on them in practice this week. The varsity teams played two regulation 12-minute quarters before the JV and freshman players took over. In the varsity quarters, just one touchdown was scored, that by Greene County. The Rams had other opportunities to cross the goal line, but penalties and other mistakes prevented further scoring. The Panthers had just two first downs in the first two quarters, but the Panorama defense bottled up the Greene County offense the majority of the time.
Coach Lansman said the Rams were not number one game ready, but that was what the scrimmage was for. He added he saw a lot of positives from the scrimmage including Senior leadership. “Our senior leaders are really starting to step up, and the younger kids are really paying attention, listening, and buying into it, and that’s key. I think these seniors and this group overall knows where they want to go, and I think this week’s practices are probably going to be some of the best we’ve had around here for a long time.”
