The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Tuesday.

Supervisor Chair Kim Chapman opened a discussion regarding getting more information to build a new criminal court building. The measure was on the 2024 November General Election ballot for approximately $57 million, but failed to pass a super majority approval. Chapman wanted to invite the other supervisors to talk about how to get more information out to the public before the next election rolls around this November.

Supervisor Brad Golightly said that he visited with several people and came to the conclusion that there should be a public workshop available for people interested in learning more about the project. Supervisor Julia Helm agreed, and pointed out that her concerns pertain to properly staffing the building, and is wanting to wait to see the state legislation on taxing.

Finance Director Rob Tietz recommended that the supervisors think about partnering with a special interest group to navigate through the process. After discussion, the board landed on having Farnsworth Group, the organization behind the development of the building, to gather all the expenses and maybe make adjustments if necessary, and then to re-present it to the board at a later date.

Next, the items on the agenda that were approved included giving Terracon clearance to conduct the Secondary Roads Administration addition construction testing and inspections for $21,930, an evidence storage and firing range geotechnical engineering agreement with Allender Butzke Engineers in the amount $4,990, a resolution for a Child Abuse Prevention Proclamation to declare April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month and allow the Crisis Intervention and Advocacy Center to place pinwheels on Dallas County grounds to heighten that awareness.

Additional items that were approved were a resolution to accept the amended official depositories as presented, a resolution for the Dallas County Supervisors to appoint rather than elect the Linn Township Selection of Trustees, and purchased a property at 100 Nile Kinnick Drive North in Adel for the Dallas County Supervisors to utilize. The board also set a public hearing to present the proposed fiscal year 2026 budget for April 21st at 7pm inside the Board of Supervisors Meeting Room in Adel.
