A new Stuart Council member has been appointed at the meeting on August 11th to fill the vacant spot left by Wade Chafa who resigned in July.

Eric Weber will fill the spot for the remainder of the term that ends in November of 2015 and his acceptance to the position was unanimously approved.

The board also approved the amendment for the urban renewal plan for the Stuart Urban Renewal area according to City Administrator Ashraf Ashour. The city of Stuart will provide support through ‘local match’ requirement of a Community Development Block grant received by the city for the improvement of exterior facades.

Ashour also states that a public hearing date has been set for the next council meeting on September 8th on a general obligation fire truck acquisition loan agreement not to exceed $175,000 as well as to approve a development agreement.

Also, Stuart Police Officer Mike Algreen spoke to the council about municipal infractions and nuisance properties and what can be done about that. Ashour stated that he will be meeting with Police Chief David Reha and the Public Safety Committee to see what can be done about the police departments concerns.
