Several Perry High School students recently participated in a statewide academic competition.
According to Activities Director Tina Lutterman, eight students competed in the regional academic decathlon at Urbandale High School and The Kurtz Opportunity Center in Des Moines on January 31st. She notes that the team placed fourth overall in the Small School Division, which qualified for the state contest that took place March 7th and 8th in Waterloo.
Lutterman details that Elyssa Hodges earned a silver medal in the Interview division, while also receiving bronze in the literature and essay competitions. She points out that Avery Johnson was given a bronze medal in the speech category, and concludes that Darlene Gonzalez participated as an alternate, but scored high enough to earn a gold certificate in the Economics field, and a bronze certificate in the Science and Essay competitions. Lutterman shares that Perry finished in 10th for the Small School Division ahead of South Hardin and Denver.
