The wrap up to the 2024-25 Greene County High School wrestling season was last night in Jefferson at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds. Head coach Kirk Davis and his coaching staff presented a number of awards relating to the recently completed season.
The Rams were 9-9 in dual meets, and not being able to fill several weight classes was responsible for forfeits, and the majority of the losses. In the postseason, the Rams sent six individuals to the Class 2A portion of the State Tournament last month in Des Moines. Senior Brent Dennhardt won a State Championship at 157 lbs. and sophomore Degan Miller was fifth at 165. Senior Gavyn Winters at 120 lbs. won three matches at State with two wins for sophomore Brennan Jacobs at 106 lbs., and one win for sophomore Jaron Jacobs at 113. Senior Marcus Ball was a State qualifier. There are 96 wrestling programs in 2A in Iowa and the Rams placed eighteenth in Des Moines.
Dennhardt and Miller were voted Most Valuable Wrestler in Honor of Chase Flack. The Jacobs’ twins, along with senior Manager Sadie Shannon received the Guts Club Award, presented to those who did not miss any practices for competitions the entire season for any reason. Ram Fanatic class at Greene County High School received the Super Booster Award. Brennan Jacobs and Ball received Most Improved varsity wrestler awards, with Winters receiving the Citizenship Award in Honor of Brad Badger. The Iron Heart Award in Honor of Fred Watson went to Jaron Jacobs, and Dennhardt received the Warriors Ethos Award in honor of Jake Taggart.
Joel Duckett received the Most Improved JV Wrestler Award and Kole Johnson received the Outstanding JV Wrestler Award.
Coach Davis completed his final year with the Rams as he is leaving high school wrestling coaching. He remains a teacher in the Coon Rapids-Bayard School District. Assistant Coach Chris Conner also is stepping away as a Ram wrestling coach. He remains a Jefferson businessman.
