With winter weather having impacted the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area multiple days in March already, a member of the Iowa State Patrol wants to share some reminders on safety.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Shelby McCreedy says that her first piece of advice is geared toward winter driving in general, but is especially helpful for winter storms like what hit the area Tuesday night and Wednesday. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that that advice is to stay home when they see statements of “travel not advised.”

“So what I want people to understand is, really evaluate the necessity of getting out, especially during the storm, because there are so many things that can impact your ability to get from point ‘A’ to point ‘B.’ Whether it’s amount of snow, road conditions, visibility, all those play a factor. And so if you don’t need to get out, please don’t until after the storm has passed.”

McCreedy mentions that her second piece of advice is that road conditions can be deceptive, especially during a winter storm.
