With Daylight Saving Time coming up on Sunday, there’s safety reminders that people should keep in mind.
The time will spring forward early Sunday morning at 2am by one hour, meaning that the daylight will last longer, but will unfortunately lose an hour of sleep. Electronic devices like smartphones and tablets should automatically jump ahead, as clocks in vehicles and home appliances will need to be manually set. Perry Volunteer Fire Chief Grason Hill tells Raccoon Valley Radio that another good practice that people should follow is changing the batteries in smoke detectors every Daylight Saving Time.
He mentions that ideal locations for smoke detectors should be one adjacent to each bedroom, along with one in each of the in the living room, in the kitchen, and bathrooms. Hill emphasizes that if a smoke detector does sound because of smoke or potential fire, then people should exit their homes within two to three minutes. Daylight Saving Time will last until November 2nd.
