The Iowa High School Speech Association Individual Events District Competition is Saturday.
Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center Individual Events Speech Coach Jessica Fridley says that she has eight students participating in 12 events this year, so a few less than last year’s group. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio why she’s looking forward to this year’s Individual Events season.
“I am really excited to have a lot of kids returning. We lost a lot of seniors last year that were very strong performers, and I think these kids can really fit in their shoes. There’s just been a lot that came up this year with weather, with a lot of sickness going around. Senior trip is also the same week as speech, so we lost several students to that, and FFA, but I’m really excited for the kids that are gonna be in there. They’re gonna have a lot of great opportunities, and I think we’re gonna be very successful.”
Fridley mentions that the events that the students are participating in this year include acting, reviewing, solo musical theater, storytelling, literary program, poetry and original oratory. The district site for AC/GC is at CAM in Anita.
