The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During reports, County Tax Coordinator Pam Olerich and County Treasurer Katlynn Mechaelsen presented the tax abatements from the Iowa Property Assessment and Appeals Board with Wild Rose Casino. Olerich said there was a countywide loss of $2,607,500 for the 2023 assessment year and in 2024, the loss was $5,292,800 of assessed value. She noted that the total estimated loss for all taxing entities was $96,462. Olerich added that all of the taxing entities had to agree to either take all of the reductions in the same assessment year or break it into parts in future years. No action was taken by the Board.
The Board then approved a guaranteed maximum price amendment from the DCI Group for the county jail project, which was $10,000 less than originally bid for just the construction portion of the project. The new total is $10,351,708. Then the Board approved an Iowa Department of Health and Human Services data request for mental health services based on the recommendation from County Attorney Thomas Laehn that the county only transfers information that is allowed under the Iowa Administrative Code.
Next, the Board approved a resolution to transfer funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to the general basic fund for HVAC expenses for the Greene County Courthouse. They also approved a special alcohol license to Lucky Wife Wine Slushies to be at Country Blessings spring open house, along with renewing the dental rates with a two percent increase and the vision rates that remained the same going into the next fiscal year for county employees. The Board also approved a resolution authorizing an interfund transfer of $800,000 from the general basic fund to the capital project fund for the new county jail that was based on a recommendation from the State Auditor’s Office in lieu of having to pay that money back to the general fund. The meeting ended in a budget workshop.
