A student from Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School will be attending the FFA District competition on Saturday.

According to ADM FFA Advisor McKenzie Gettler, junior Eliza Schmidt participated in the Sub-Districts Leadership Development Events at East Union High School on February 10th, where she garnered gold in the ag radio broadcasting category. Schmidt tells Raccoon Valley Radio that she felt slightly nervous, but prepared heading into the contest.

She describes that her grandparents were farmers, and that she grew up raising cattle with her family, emphasizing that she has a strong connection with it. Schmidt shares that her interest piqued with radio broadcasting, as it allowed her to explore a new avenue.

“It was an experience that I didn’t know a lot about, so I figured that it would be fun to try, fun to learn about, and honestly I could see myself speaking in some type of way in the future.”

Schmidt acknowledges the importance of farming in the world and illustrates that she’s been able to have many opportunities in her high school career so far. Schmidt will be competing in the district competition this Saturday at Murray High School.
