A deputy responded to a single vehicle accident on Highway 30 (220th Street), near the Raccoon River Bridge. A 2008 Chevrolet Impala that was being driven by Jonathon Reimers Stout 25, of Des Moines was east bound on 220th, when he reported a deer ran across the roadway and he swerved to avoid striking the deer and ended up in the north ditch. Personnel from the Greene County Emergency Medical Services also responded and transported a passenger in the vehicle, Diamondique Renae Nickens 20, also of Des Moines, to the Greene County Medical center for the complaint of lower back pain. The Stout vehicle sustained an estimated $7,000 in damages and Jonathon Stout was issued a citation for Failure to Maintain Control.

A deputy checked an unoccupied vehicle on Highway 30 near U Avenue. The car was off the roadway and secured.

A deputy was dispatched to Churdan to check the report of 3 youth riding mopeds and golf carts around the town in a reckless manner and not stopping at stop signs.

A deputy checked the identity of a male hitchhiker on 220th Street near A Avenue.

A deputy was advised of a suspicious male subject that was reported to be loitering around the school playground in Scranton. The deputy located the described male at the city park and checked his identification.

Deputies and officers from the Jefferson Police Department were not able to locate a vehicle that was reported to have been involved in a rollover accident at the intersection of Quint Avenue and 235th Street. The vehicle was removed from the scene before the deputy’s arrival. Both agencies are still investigating to identify the reported vehicle.

Thursday, August 14th

A deputy stopped a reported erratic driver on Highway 30 near Jefferson and issued a citation for Failure to prove security against liability.

A deputy investigated criminal mischief to several windows at a residence in the 400 block of East Paton Street in Paton.

The animal control officer spoke with a Scranton resident in the 1100 block of State Street about not  registering her dog with city hall and that citations will be issued in the future for dogs running at large.

A deputy spoke with a rural resident in the 1400 block of Kirkwood Avenue about a phone scam that her son had received. She was asked by the deputy to monitor his bank account and check his credit report for improper transactions.

 In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants a presumed innocent until proven guilty.
