Panorama Community School District is the only school in Guthrie County that has an ESports program, and it’s something that has been going very well for them.
Superintendent Kasey Huebner says that during the February School Board Meeting, ESports Director Cameron Little shared that the program has done well in its inaugural season, especially when it comes to the composition of the students participating in the program. There are 33 members, with a squad of 10 available for the varsity line up, and Little mentioned that eight of the ten varsity members are students who aren’t participating in any other program. He said that this means that the ESports program is doing exactly what it’s supposed to, in that it’s something that allows individuals who may prefer not to compete in a traditionally sanctioned sport to still represent the school.
Huebner also explained another part of Little’s presentation, regarding a community partnership the district has for the program.
“One thing he did note though, just through conversations with other ESports directors in the state, he’s very confident that we have one of the best computer towers, thanks to Panora Fiber. They were gracious enough to donate these devices for our kids, and he says they are one of the best in the state.”
Huebner mentions that this year the program is only competing in the winter season, with students competing in the game “Overwatch 2.” He adds that this gives them an opportunity to grow the program later on and compete in the second season as well.
