The Iowa High School Speech Association Large Group All-State Speech Festival is on Saturday, and students from Adel-DeSoto-Minburn will be attending.

ADM participated in the State Large Group Speech Contest on February 8th at Waukee High School, where they advanced their reader’s theatre, group improvisation, and choral reading to All-State. According to Speech Coach Jacque Seidl, choral reading will be taking the stage on Saturday, while reader’s theatre and group improvisation advanced, but are not performing. Senior Isaac Hatchitt, who is in group improvisation and choral reading, reflects on how he thinks his two categories did at state.

“Improv, I feel like was one of the greatest (performances) we’ve done competition wise. The difference between last year and this year is tremendous. And then for choral reading, I thought we did pretty well. There were some screw ups here and there, but we did good and we fixed those in practice.”

Junior Nick Subbert tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he’s learned from Seidl how to channel his emotions in order to get things done, despite challenges.

“Being able to have like a wide variety of emotions and not always having a fun time, but still being productive.”

ADM’s choral reading is set to perform at the CY Stephens Auditorium at Iowa State University in Ames at 1:54pm on Saturday. The full schedule can be found here.
