Perry and Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High Schools will be taking several student-athletes to the State Wrestling Tournament, which starts tomorrow.
The teams competed at the Iowa High School Athletic Association District competition this past Saturday. Perry is taking Ben Kusar, who is 27-6 on the season at the 138-pound weight class, and Narciso Hidalgo, who has a record of 17-7 and represents the 285-pound weight class. ADM has four individuals including Grayson Sutter at 138-pounds and has a record of 25-13 on the year; at 144-pounds is Ethan Johnson, with an overall record of 32-11; Jon Hatchitt at 190-pound with a 29-10 record; and Karver Sutton at the 215-pound weight class with a 28-17 record on the season.
For Perry, Kusar placed second after losing to Humboldt’s Tyce Clarken by a fall, and Hidalgo lost to Eagle Grove’s Jesus Baez by a 4-1 sudden victory. ADM’s Sutter fell to Waukee’s Lincoln Miller in the first place match by a 6-0 decision, Johnson lost to Dowling Catholic’s Airic Conn by a fall, Sutton was beat by Johnston’s Kolby Gibbons by a fall, and it was Hatchitt that won first place over Johnston’s Mason Roethler by a 10-0 major decision.
ADM represents Class 3A with the first round beginning tomorrow morning at 9am, and Perry, who is in Class 1A, will start tomorrow at 6pm.
