Two local civic organizations are teaming up to use a friendly rivalry to support those who need help putting food on the table for their families.
Perry Lions Club President David Wright came up with the idea for the Rock Hunger in Dallas County competition this summer as a way to help benefit the Perry and Adel communities.
“Perry and Adel play every year and apparently it’s getting to be a more heated rival every year, at least talking with some of the students at the high school that’s what they tell me. So we thought there might be some energy we can harness there. We also wanted to work more with the younger people in the community, so this was an opportunity to do that. Plus we knew the food pantry had a need for food, so here’s a way we can do that” says Wright.
So in addition to the competition on the field during the game, the two clubs will be competing to see who can collect the most donations.
Food items and monetary donations are being collected up until the game on Friday, August 29th in Adel. Perry residents can drop theirs off at Medicap Pharmacy.
