Class 3A number 5 Washington High School of Cherokee was a 67-13 winner over Greene County in a Region 5 quarterfinal girls’ basketball game on Monday night in Cherokee. The game was postponed from Saturday due to the weather. The Rams end the season at 0-23 while the Braves move on with a 19-3 record.
The Rams were led in scoring by sophomore Sara Morlan with six points on a pair of three-point goals. Junior Kaycee Pittman had five points on two and three-point goals, and sophomore Makenna Ebersole added two points. Sophomore Addy Wolfswinkle led the Braves with 17 points, all in the first quarter.
The Braves used a full court press to start the game and the Rams turned the ball over 22 times in the opening eight minutes. Cherokee led 26-2 after one quarter of play and 52-5 at halftime. The second half was played with a running clock under the 35 point margin rule.
This is the first winless season for a Jefferson-based girls’ varsity basketball team in the five-player era, although each of the previous two seasons produced just one victory each.
