Next week Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will be holding two events on Thursday.

Program Director Shelby Van Horn says that one of the events is the Babysitter Basics class. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the class goes over some basic information babysitters may need while performing their jobs, like basic first aid, how to prepare snacks, and also lists one of the things they will do during the class.

“One of the cool things about this class is we also make babysitter busy bags. So we give you a bunch of tools and different toys and things of that nature to be able to take with you on your babysitting job. So you kind of are the fun one that comes in the door with a bag of different activities for the children that you are watching to play and enjoy.”

Van Horn mentions that the class will be held from 9am to 3pm, and is geared for those in 5th grade or older, and that there is a $25 attendance fee, which covers the babysitter bag and the class.

Additionally, Van Horn adds that the other event for that day is a candle making and macrame coaster class, where individuals will be able to make a coaster and candle for $40, with any additional candles costing $20. Those attending the class will make candles with different fragrances, and can choose inspirational labels to add.
