An event encouraging people to share the history of Perry is coming up tomorrow.
The Perry Iowa Historical Society will be holding a collection event tomorrow afternoon from 1-4pm at the Carnegie Library Museum. According to Co-Director Larry Vodenik, this will be the first program this year and is a way for people to remove any unwanted items from their property, but not totally get rid of them. He states that the group started back in April of last year, and reveals some of his favorite items that have been donated.
“I’ve got over 3,000 photos of Perry now in my archive, but people that are old enough to remember that we used to have Stoners Meat Market down on the corner on 2nd Street, and there was a great big sign above the door. And then we got the signs off of the building down on 2nd Street, down by the Carnegie Library (Museum) where the Old Fellows Lodge used to be, and they said that if we removed it, then we could have that sign. So, we’ve gotten some big outdoor signs that are historically significant to Perry.”
Vodenik invites people to bring old photographs, furniture, or other memorabilia items to the Carnegie Library Museum. He adds that people don’t have to bring any items, and are welcome to stop by to learn more about Perry or the organization.
