The Greene County Rams wrap up the first week of practice later today in the middle school gym in Jefferson. Head Coach Donna Carhill has a varsity squad full of depth and experience following a 15-17 season in 2013. The coach told Raccoon Valley Radio that even though you can still only play six girls at a time, there may be as many as 13 Rams see the floor in any given set. “We have some specialized defensive positions, and we’re looking at some players to back up other players to help everyone stay fresh so that fatigue doesn’t become an issue in long matches or on tournament days.”
Coach Carhill said she’s looking at using quick offenses this season. “We’re definitely going to focus on a setter than can run those offenses. We’re not exceptionally tall, so we’re going to have to be pretty quick at the net, and we’ve been working really hard on blocking, even though even though we’re not extremely tall. We’ve been working on jumping well, so that we can put up some defenses. We will face some powerful hitters out of the left side, so we’re looking at being able to put up a defense against that.”
The Rams have until Sept. 9 before they play a game that counts in the season record.
