An outdoor program with Dallas County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is happening soon.

The Master Gardeners is inviting people out to a seed saving class this Tuesday from 6-7:30pm at the Dallas County Extension Office, 28061 Fairground Road, in Adel. Horticulture and Conservation Program Educator Megan Will explains that a master gardener will instruct participants on methods to save native seeds. She notes that this is the first time the program will be open to the public, and comments what led to that decision.

“Everybody should learn how to save their own favorite pepper or tomato seed, or maybe they’ve gotten a seed or a flower from somebody special and want to make sure they always can plant that year after year, and not have to rely on buying it at the store, so we’re going to show you how you can save your own seeds and then always have your own supplies.”

Will announces that the class is free to anyone of all ages, but is asking for people to register beforehand. For more information or to sign up, contact the Dallas County ISU Extension office at (515)-993-4281.
