The State Elks Hoop Shoot Contest will be happening tomorrow as Perry will be bringing three individuals along.
According to Perry Elks Contest Director Travis Landgrebe, Perry participated in the district competition on January 11th. From there, he explains that Veda Iben was named the district champion for girls ages 8-9, Will Adair was the boys district champion for ages 8-9, and Pierce Menke as the ages 12-13 boys district champion. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Perry has taken kids in the past to state, but this is the first year three will be attending. Landgrebe is happy to recognize youth from Perry each year.
“It’s a great event. We love doing it. I’ve been doing it for a long time and I have no reason to not keep doing it. It’s been pretty successful and the kids seem to enjoy it and (they) put in a lot of hard work into their basketball.”
Landgrebe describes that the State Elks Hoop Shoot Contest will be in Ottumwa tomorrow, beginning at 10am, followed by a banquet at 5pm. The winners from each gender and age division will move onto the regional contest.
