RRW’s Templeman Gets 100th Career Pin in First Night at State

An athlete from the Raccoon River Wrestling Team accomplished a great feat in the first night of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union State Tournament on Thursday.

Senior Naomi Templeman (140 lbs.) was able to garner her 100th career pin during the first round of the Class 2A state wrestling tournament. She faced Cedar Falls’ Destiny Hoeppner, winning by a fall in 1:53. Templeman followed that performance up with the quarterfinal round in which she beat Ames’ Lauryn Metcalf by a fall (1:29). She has advanced to the semi-final round, which starts today at 10am at Xtream Arena in Coralville.

Other members from RRW that will be competing in the semi-finals include Cassidy McCallister, Calista Rodish, and Katie Biscoglia. Also, Natalie Keller, Izzy Duncan, Ellie Hancock, Edie Collins, and Reese Baxter (from Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School) will be competing in round three of the consolations. RRW junior Bella Bruins (155 lbs.) finished the season with an overall record of 29-17 after she fell in the consolation round to Iowa City High’s Shanona Emmanuel by a fall (55 seconds).
