
Greene County sent its high school girls and boys bowling teams to Denison on Thursday for a Baker Tournament at Lucky Lanes. Coaches select five bowlers and each bowlers rolls two frames in a Baker game. The 10 frame total is the score for that game. Teams played 15 baker games on Thursday with the Greene County boys placing fourth among six teams and the girls finishing sixth among six squads.
Three larger class programs finished ahead of the Greene County boys led by Council Bluffs Lewis Central 3,016, Denison-Schleswig 2,896, and Sioux City East 2,698. Greene County had 2,660 pins, OABCIG (Ida Grove) 2,619, and 2,248 from Harlan Community.
The girls from Lewis Central finished first with 2,681, followed by D-S 2,526, Harlan Community 2,179, Sioux City East 2,169, OABCIG 2,025, and 1,621 pins for Greene County.
Greene County coach John Woodford told Raccoon Valley Radio the Greene County boys were in second place after the first five games, then pairs were moved. “We bowled the worst the next five games and fell to fifth. We bowled great the last two to make it to fourth.”
Coach Woodford said the girls had fun and bowled a couple of 140 games, but need a little more spares made.
