High school students from Perry and Adel-DeSoto-Minburn will be attending the Iowa High School Speech Association State Large Group Speech contest on Saturday.

Perry had three groups advance with a Division One rating from the district contest on January 25th, while ADM qualified 17 groups. Perry junior Seth Borgeson, who is performing in group improvisation and short film, tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he’s happy that the hard work from districts is paying off.

“We all worked super hard on our film and we all spent a lot of time on it. So I’m glad that everything came together well and it worked out for us.”

Perry senior Olivia Christensen, who is in musical theater, is looking forward to absorbing the atmosphere one more time.

“Maybe just seeing like how much better we improve, or if we don’t improve at all, but it’s more for the experience and just having that fun as our last year as seniors.

ADM’s side will have two freshmen group improvisation ensembles, as well as one freshman short film and choral reading entries, along with three group improvisation ensembles and three radio entries, two varsity short films, two ensemble acting groups, and one varsity solo mime, readers theater, and choral reading entries.

Perry will be performing on Saturday at Ames High School, while ADM will be going to Waukee High School that same day. The full list of performances are below.
