Tuesday night saw the Greene County varsity basketball teams travel to Saydel High School on the northeast side of Des Moines for a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girl/boy doubleheader.The home teams were winners of both contests, 69-21 in the girls’ game, and 77-53 on the boys’ side.

Sophomore Makenna Ebersole had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Rams. Saydel had 34 points from senior Paige Rummans, who became a rare 1,000 points and rebounds player in her high school career. The Rams are now 0-19 overall and 0-14 in the conference while the Eagles improved to 11-9, 6-9.

Greene County’s boys’ team scored 15 points above their season average and made seven three-point shots, but the Eagles were 19 points above their scoring average and they sank nine three-pointers. The Eagles had 18 points from Brady Hicks and 17 from Adam Olin. Greene County was led in scoring by senior Isaac Carman with 15 points and 12 for junior Broc Stream. The Rams are 3-16 on the season and 1-13 in league play while the Eagles are now 9-9, 7-8.

The Rams host West Marshall (State Center) on Friday night in Jefferson for another HOIAC twin bill. Those games can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. As a part of the festivities, the 2025 Greene County High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class will be introduced to the basketball crowd. Inductees are Bruce Mac Donald, Scranton Class of 1964, track & field; Will Thomson, Jefferson-Scranton ’94, wrestling; Matt Lautner, J-S 2000, football; John Michael Sawhill, J-S 2008, football; Jennifer Kennedy, Greene County, 2013, softball; Marissa Promes, Greene County ’15, softball. The Hall of Fame inductions take place tomorrow at 6 p.m. in the high school commons area with light snacks, followed by the inductees speaking to those attending. The Thursday night event is free of charge and open to the public.
