A Jefferson man was sentenced to jail and probation following an incident in July of 2024.
According to court documents, 41-year-old Michael Wagoner pled guilty to two serious misdemeanors for domestic abuse assault and interference with official acts-resulting in bodily injury. He had all but 90 days of a one year jail sentence suspended for the domestic abuse charge and all but ten days of a one year jail sentence suspended for the interference with official acts charge, with both to be served consecutively for no more than 100 days in the Greene County Jail.
The charges stemmed from an incident on July 12th when Jefferson Police Officers responded to a domestic situation at a home in the 500 block of West State Street. When the Officers saw Wagoner come out of the home holding the victim by the hair and holding a firearm in the air, the officers drew their service weapons. Court documents show that Wagoner dropped the gun and the victim and ran back into the home where a child was present. Officers were able to punch a small hole in the side glass door with a baton and then used a taser on Wagoner after verbal commands were unsuccessful, and Wagoner was then incapacitated and was arrested.
Court documents show that Wagoner was also ordered to pay over $1,000 in fines, surcharges, court-appointed attorney fee and court costs. As per the plea agreement, the aggravated misdemeanor for child endangerment was dismissed.
