Students from Perry and Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High Schools will be participating in a district competition on Saturday.
The 2025 Iowa High School Speech Association District Large Group Speech Contest is happening at Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center High School. According to Perry Speech Coach Mandy Meyers, 20 students will be represented in four categories of musical theater, reader’s theater, group improvisation, and short film. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that due to the school shooting that occurred last year in January, Perry was unable to participate in the competition. ADM’s Speech Coach Jacque Seidl explains that 60 students will be attending the competition across 17 categories.
The competition will feature hundreds of schools throughout the state of Iowa. According to IHSSA, the entries that receive a Division 1-rating will advance to the state contest in February. For a full list of students competing in the District Large Group Speech Contest, see below.
