There’s conversation surrounding the possibility of banning cell phones while driving and a legislator shares her thoughts on the matter.

Iowa District 14 Senator Sarah Trone-Garriott details that in Governor Kim Reynolds’ Condition of the State, she is proposing to pass legislation to eliminate distracted driving by prohibiting cell phone use. Trone-Garriott tells Raccoon Valley Radio that she has been active in the legislature to push for a bill to pass, but all parties haven’t come to an agreement. She elaborates that the bill has been in the works behind the scenes for a good amount of time.

“Over the years, this bill has been worked on with lots of partners to iron out the kinks, to make sure that the enforcement of how it’s going to work out in real life. It’s really thought out, so it is really addressing the need.”

Trone-Garriott says that if the bill goes through the legislative process again, then it would give senators an opportunity to share insight to determine the best course of action for the state of Iowa.
