A Georgia man was sentenced earlier this week stemming from charges filed in Adair County.

According to court documents, 32 year old Taft Burtton fled law enforcement in Adair County when they attempted to stop his vehicle on April 20, 2023. Burtton made a u-turn in the median, and later his vehicle was disabled by law enforcement. He then fled on foot, evading law enforcement. A search of Burtton’s vehicle resulted in 884 grams of methamphetamine and over $42,000 in drug profits.

In December of 2023, a search warrant was executed at Burtton’s Des Moines residence, where he was found to be in possession of over 50 grams of fentanyl, 150 grams of heroin, 150 grams of cocaine, 50 grams of crack and 300 grams of marijuana. A firearm was also located in the residence, which Burtton cannot be in possession of because he is a felon. Burton was sentenced to 25 years in a federal prison for possessing distribution quantities of meth, fentanyl and heroin, along with having the firearm.
