Last night the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs basketball teams hosted the Ankeny Hawks and unfortunately both Mustang teams fell to the Hawks. The Mustang girls were defeated 54-31 while the Mustang boys would stay right on the Hawks heels, falling short 50-48.
The Mustang offense would be contained the entire game by the Hawkettes defense as Ankeny would only allow 12 points for the Mustangs girls in the first half. With the score at 28-12 going into the second half, the Hawkettes would continue to keep the lead and run away with it, holding Leah Brauch to only 14 points as the Mustangs’ leading scorer. The Mustangs would continue fighting, but fall 54-31.
Kyle Cason and the Mustangs would fight throughout the entire match with the Hawks, ending the first half only down by 1 point. With the score at 25-24, the Hawks would begin to run away with the lead in the third, but Cason would end the night with 20 points, bringing the Mustangs just short by two, 50-48.
The Mustang boys are back in action on Friday as they travel to Ankeny Centennial High School to take on the Jaguars. Tip off is scheduled for 6:15pm.
