The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday evening for the first time in 2025.
The Council approved city appointments for the new year, including Bolton and Menk as City Engineer, Chad Stevens as the Building Inspector and Code Enforcer, Roxanne Gorsuch as City Clerk and David Morain as City Attorney. They also approved all committee assignments for 2025 without any changes from the previous year, the official newspaper for the year as presented, and the second reading to amend an ordinance to establish an animal appeals board.
Additionally, the Council approved a resolution to set up financial assistance for tree removal. City Administrator Scott Peterson said some of the aspects include a property owner borrowing up to $5,000 per lot to remove trees on a first come, first served basis. The total amount that is set aside for the assistance is $50,000. They also approved a resolution for a social media and mass texting policy for city employees as presented, as well as hiring Michael Carlson as a water operator with an hourly wage of $21.91 that is effective January 21st. The 23rd pay estimate to Shank Constructors of $278,729 for the Wastewater Treatment Plant improvement project was also approved.
