The Perry Community School District is excelling in an area of literacy that is assisting students.

Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks shares that the English Language Learners Program, which is led by the Director of Teaching and Learning Kevin Vidergar, currently serves 391 students in 16 different languages. Wicks is captivated by the amount of success the program has been able to provide for students.

“I think it’s just impressive that our teachers are able to take those kids where they’re at (and) have them continue to grow. (It’s) all about continuous learning and yet differentiating their instruction to meet all of those needs.”

Wicks praises the teachers in the English Language Learners Program as he believes that the numbers demonstrate the quality of employees leading kids. He adds that under the program, 320 students have graduated from the Perry School District.
