For the first time since late in the 2022-23 boys’ basketball season, a streak of 15 straight games, the Greene County Rams won on the home floor in Jefferson. The Rams built a 22 point lead early in the fourth quarter and held off South Hamilton (Jewel), 65-55. The Hawks were 53-30 winners in the girls’ game.

Neither the Rams or Hawks had won a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference game this season and after leading 41-25 halftime lead, the Rams were up 56-34 early in the last period before SH senior Grant Larson nearly single handedly brought them back. They got to within 57-50 and rebuilt the lead to 65-52 when Larson sank a bank sot from near halfcourt for the final margin Larson had 30 points with five three-pointers and 15 free throws in 18 attempts. That included 14 in a row in the second half until a late miss. The Rams had their most balanced scoring attack in some time with 12 points from Camden Jacobs, 11 for Broc Stream, and 10 each from Adam Bills, Isaac Carman, and Rafe Michaelson. The Rams won for the third time in 10 games and improved to 1-6 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The Hawks fell to 0-11, 0-8.

The Rams trailed 11-1 after one quarter in the girls’ game and 26-8 at the half. It was 30-17 early in the fourth quarter, then the Hawks went on a run and out scored the home team 23-3 the rest of the way. Greene County is 0-10 overall and 0-7 in conference games while SH is 4-7 overall and 4-4 in the HOIAC. Makenna Ebersole had seven points for the Rams with six apiece by Faith Hymez-Diaz and Kaycee Pittman. The Hawks got 21 points from sophomore post Tessa Skartwedt.
