Last night the West Central Valley Wildcats hosted the Interstate 35 Roadrunners and split the contest, with the Wildcat girls picking up a 57-35 victory, while the boys fell 52-41.
In the girls contest, both the Roadrunners and the Wildcats had a bit of a slow start, but the Wildcats would take a 6-0 lead before I-35 would begin to come back, but the Wildcats would hold on to a 9-6 lead to end the first. West Central Valley would begin to fire up, scoring 16 points in the second to claim a 25-17 going into the break. In the second half, the Wildcat defense would assert their dominance, only allowing 18 points the entire half while scoring 32 of their own to claim a 57-35 victory over the Roadrunners.
In the boys contest, the Wildcats would battle hard in the first and second, remaining right behind the Roadrunners. I-35 would take the lead in the first and never look back, ending the first quarter with a 15-10 lead. The Wildcats would fight back, but the Roadrunners would begin to extend their lead with a halftime score of 27-19. Coming back from the break, the Roadrunners seemed to have everything working for them, scoring 19 points to take a 46-28 lead. The Wildcats would battle back in the fourth, cutting the Roadrunner lead to only 10, but unfortunately would not be able to come back, falling to I-35 52-41.
