Carl Behne, the only head boys’ soccer coach the program at Greene County High School has known, resigned his position earlier this week. Citing work, family, and travel commitments, he said he would not have been able to give the boys and the program the focus and passion they deserve.
Behne and assistant coach Chad Black have been the only high school boys coaches since the start of the program in 2018. No other sport the Rams compete in has had the success boys’ soccer has had in that time span. Winning seasons every year, one or more postseason victories every season, highly rated teams, and three State Tournament appearances are some of the program highlights. Several individuals also earned All-State honors while wearing the Greene County uniform. There was no 2020 season due to the Pandemic.
Activities Director Dave Wright told Raccoon Valley Radio he’ll advertise the position and expects to have it filled in time for the February School Board meeting.
Behne and his wife, Allison, no longer live in Jefferson. Their son, Nathan, a kicker on the Upper Iowa University (Fayette) football team, was named to the second All-Conference team in November as a true freshman.
