Greene County was a boys’ bowling winner against Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) and the wrestling team won dual meets vs. Nevada and Perry. Both events took place on Thursday.
Coach John Woodford’s bowlers were at home at Spare Time Lanes in Jefferson for the first time this season. The Knights are a first year program and they field only a boys’ team. The Rams won 2,747-1979 to improve to 2-1 on the season. Kuemper Catholic is 0-9. Sophomore Carter Fecher led the Rams with a two game series of 445, followed by senior Lane Fields 403, sophomore Trystan Cummings 391, junior Teagan Chisholm 346, and sophomore Jacob Rumley 319. Fecher had the high game at 234 while Fields rolled a 229 and Cummings 224. The Rams are 2-1 and the Knights fell to 0-9.
Coach Kirk Davis’ wrestling team traveled to Perry for a pair of Heart of Iowa Activities Conference dual meets. The Rams topped Nevada 57-24, and Perry 51-30 to improve to 6-5 on the season and 3-2 in the conference. Nevada beat the BLue Jays 48-35 in the other meet. There were several forfeits throughout the night, but the Rams went 13-2 in the 15 contested matches involving Greene County. Rams going 2-0 included Cole Johnson (2 forfeits), Brennan Jacobs (2 falls), Jaron Jacobs (1 fall, 1 forfeit), Gavyn Winters (9-8 decision, forfeit), Crew Conner (5-1 decision and forfeit), Brent Dennhardt (2 falls), Degan Miller (1 fall and 1 forfeit), and Marcus Ball (2 falls). Roman Sebourn and Haiden Venteicher each went 1-1 and both Rams won a contested match for the first time as varsity wrestlers. Jacob Harmeyer injured his right hand in warmups and wrestled just once, winning by fall in come-from-behind fashion vs. the Cubs.
