Three Greene County Middle School students were recently announced as winners of an annual contest.

American Legion Post #11 Adjutant Barb Labate says Lyndsie Goughour was first place, Samantha Pedersen was second and Mila Sebolt finished third in the Flag Essay Contest. She points out that Fifth Grade Social Studies Teacher Kim Braun has carried on this tradition as the fifth graders participate in this competition that is sponsored by the American Legion of Iowa Essay Contest that develops a youth’s mind with knowledge and appreciation for the US Flag, as well as an understanding of flag etiquette and respect. 

Labate states that the essay winner also has the opportunity to recite their submission during the following Memorial Day service at the Jefferson City Cemetery. Goughour additionally received $30, Pedersen earned $20 and Sebolt won $10.
