Last night the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs traveled to Oskaloosa High School to take on the Indians in double header basketball action. The Mustangs pulled off the sweep, with the girls picking up a 48-44 victory with the boys to follow defeating the Indians 50-30.

The Mustang girls would face off against Dasia Foster and her Indians as Foster would use her size in the paint to bully the Mustangs. Brauch and Bones would begin to use their speed against Foster, claiming a 13-11 lead in the first, then would claim a 9 point lead going into the half as senior Leah Brauch would hit a big three to solidify the Mustang lead 26-17 going into the halftime break. Coming back from the break the Indians would double the Mustangs point bring the match tied 34-34. The Mustangs would begin to feel the pressure being held to 8 points while the Indians score 17. With the score tied, the Mustangs would continue to fight in the fourth, taking a four point lead while keeping the Indians from tying the match. Freshman Ava Smid would have a hug steal for the Mustangs in the final 14.7 seconds to secure the Mustangs 48-44 victory.

For the Mustang boys, the Mustangs would have an explosive first start, as Cason continued to dominate, scoring 11 points in the first half alone. The Mustangs would find their rhythm, taking a 32-19 going into the third quarter. This is when Edwards and the Indians would begin to fire up, eventually taking the lead from the Mustangs, scoring 17 points in the third while holding the Mustangs to only 8. The Mustangs would tie it up, bring the score to 36-36 in the final quarter, Cason would begin to fire up again, ending the night at 25 points, while shooting a perfect 7/7 from the free throw line to help claim at 50-30 victory for DCG.

The Mustang girls now sit at 7-1 while the boys advance to 3-3. The Mustang girls travel to Sioux City tomorrow to the Tyson Event Center to take on the #1 Bishop Heelan Crusaders with action set to begin at 6pm.
