Paton-Churdan hosted CAM (Anita) in a rare afternoon girl/boy doubleheader of Rolling Valley Activities Conference basketball on Friday. The Rockets won a thrilling 61-59 boys’ game while the girls’ contest went to CAM by a final of 54-13.
First year head coach Josh Cerveny told Raccoon Valley Radio his team was plagued with early foul trouble. Leading scorer Trevon Keely had three fouls in the first half and was limited to 14 points. Junior Phoenix Hartman picked up the slack with a career best 23 points and Cayden Stream added 11. Chase Jahde of CAM led all scorers with 28 points. Coach Cerveny said his team was up by two points with 11.8 seconds to play when the Rockets missed a pair of free throws. CAM missed a three-point shot and a follow up shot before the final buzzer sounded. The Rockets head into the break for the Holidays with a 2-4 record. The coach added the players really battled and deserved the hard fought win.
Sophomore Kaliyah Minnihan had nine of the points for P-C. Ada Hansen led CAM with 12 points. The Cougars were ahead 29-5 at halftime. The Rockets are without a win through the December portion of the schedule.
