Tonight is the only chance to see the next production from the Greene County Community Theatre.
GCCT Board Vice President Josh Tuel says “A Community Theater Christmas” is a reader’s theater-style version of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” Then following that is caroling in the commons area that Tuel says will be led by singer-songwriter and musician Chad Elliott, along with a free coffee/tea/hot chocolate bar from Greene Bean Coffee. Tuel remarks on how this event came together to include more than just a performance on the stage.
“(I) Started to think about this idea of kind of like ‘give back to the community at Christmas.’ And I thought, ‘Man, if I could kind of get some people, some businesses involved who I know are art lovers, we could make this about more than just about the community theater. We could make it a community event.’ Chad (Elliott) said, ‘Hey yeah we can help.’ And then the Osbornes (Rich and Reagan) at Greene Bean Coffee are always big supporters of the arts, and they were more than happy to throw their lot in. Yeah, kind of coming together on all fronts.”
The entire event is free and open to the public, but free will donations will be accepted, with half of the funds going to GCCT for future performances, and the other half to a new scholarship fund that GCCT is starting and will be awarded to a graduating senior who is either planning to pursue a career in the performing arts or who has had an active performing arts career in high school.
