Greene County 4-H’ers are invited to a program tomorrow that deals with livestock.

Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says a Livestock Judging Tryout opportunity will be at the Greene County Extension Office in Jefferson tomorrow from 4-6pm. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio participants will learn about the basics of judging livestock and the workshop will wrap up with a mock contest. Hardaway notes that they will be looking at how the 4-H’ers look at animals from their knowledge of the structure and placing them in the correct classes to better determine the types of teams they could be on.

Hardaway talks about how competitive livestock judging has been since this activity was started last year in Greene County.

“We can only facilitate up to three teams, so there may be some alternates and everything, but we want to give everybody the opportunity if they want to continue to explore that. But we’ve had three teams competitively competing for the past year. They competed at the Iowa Beef Expo, Iowa Pork Producers Expo, they’ve competed at the state contest, as well as the Wapello County Gold Buckle Contest. So they have been some busy kids”.
