A Greene County entity will cease its operations soon.

Jefferson City Administrator Scott Peterson says the Greene County Recycling Agency has been in existence since the 1990s, and an organization called Genesis Development handled recycling for all of the contracted communities in the county along with Greene County itself, except Scranton and Grand Junction. However, Peterson notes that since then, Genesis became Imagine the Possibilities and the city of Jefferson became the service provider for recycling, while charging a fee.

Peterson explains the details behind a recent meeting of how the Greene County Recycling Agency decided that it should dissolve.

“We had to get together for one once a year agency meeting so that we could pay an insurance bill. Here the agency has to have insurance (as per the requirements) and really the agency itself doesn’t do anything. So we will dissolve the agency and have new agreements, individual agreements in place with all of the other communities in Greene County.”

Peterson emphasizes that the public will not see any changes to how recycling is done with the city of Jefferson crews continuing to provide recycling services as they currently exist. He adds that there was a special meeting held last week for the beginning process of giving notification of the dissolution, followed by a 30-day period for that to happen, with an anticipated time of February for the organization to be no more.
