The Raccoon River Wrestling team is off to a good start on the 2024-25 season as Head Coach James Biscoglia highlights his favorite moments through the first group of meets.
The RRW Varsity team has competed in six matches so far where individual girls have placed really well. Biscoglia tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the Dan Gable Donnybrook Tournament has been the climax of the season through this point. RRW won the meet as he says it brings teams from Illinois, Missouri, and Minnesota. Another meet was the 2024 Council Bluffs Wrestling Classic, where the team finished second. Biscoglia’s daughter, Katie, was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler for weight class 105, and despite missing a couple of their top wrestlers of Calista Rodish and Cassidy McCallister, Coach Biscoglia was proud of the effort.
“Man, our girls…to take that much firepower out and still finish second, there is a whole lot of depth on this team, and they really showed it at the Donnybrook, where we only had one champion, it was Reese Baxter. And then to go to the Council Bluffs Classic and have all of those girls place, it’s just amazing performance by our team.”
Baxter, who attends Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School, wrestles in the 235 pound weight class for RRW. The team consists of four high schools: ADM, Van Meter, Waukee, and Waukee Northwest. The varsity will be in action on Saturday when host the RRW ADM Invite at ADM High School, in Adel at 10am.
