The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Basketball teams opened up Raccoon River Conference play on Friday against North Polk.
The Tigers girls lost 60-35, while the boys won 64-48. In the girls game, the first half was nice and competitive as ADM was responding to every run that the Comets were making. North Polk was up 13-4 in the first before the Tigers ended the quarter on a 6-0 spurt including a desperation three point heave by freshman Ella Subbert to cut the deficit to 13-10 at the end of one. The second quarter saw the Comets take an 11-point lead but then the Tigers responded with another quick six points to cut it to four, then a late lay up from Senior Lauren Ausborn to give North Polk a 25-19 lead.
The Comets would apply full court pressure to begin the third as that flustered the Tigers leading to turnovers and a 44-25 advantage at the end of three. North Polk would play much of the bench as they went onto win by a final of 60-35.
Comets senior Becca Aagard led the way with 13 points, sophomore Campbell Schulz contributed with 11, then it was sophomore Fayth Sullivan with 10. For the Tigers, senior Kelli Stock had 13 and Subbert added 12. North Polk improves to 3-0 as ADM falls to 2-3.
In the boys game, the Tigers began hot, scoring the first 19 points and led 19-2 at the end of the first. They would continue to roll onto a 38-17 advantage at half, but the Comets outscored them 31-26 in the second half. However, ADM’s lead was too big as they held onto win 64-48. Tigers junior Hudson Lorensen was the high man with 26 points, along with junior Hudson Shull and senior Cade Fisher’s nine points.
North Polk falls to 1-1 on the year as ADM improves to 2-0 as the Tigers will travel to Carroll on Tuesday for a doubleheader, starting at 6pm with girls.
