A housing program in Greene County recently celebrated granting over $25,000 that resulted in a total housing improvement investment of over one-quarter of a million dollars.
144 Corridor Housing Initiative Board President Mary Weaver says in their second year of establishing exterior home improvements grants of up to $1,000, they granted a total of $25,735 for 26 projects in eastern Greene County, which resulted in an investment of $231,670 of improvements were completed in 2024. She points out 144 CHI also received a $40,000 grant from Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation for demolishing structures and clearing properties. Weaver says six of the nine requests were granted and the $40,000 was leveraged for a total of $92,360.
Weaver describes the most impressive part for her this year was about a younger family that moved to Rippey from Pleasant Hill, for better cost of living, and were granted funds to help install a new roof on their home. She thanks those that contributed to the overall funding of the grants, including GGCGC, Jefferson Rotary Club, Greene County Development Corporation, the cities of Paton, Dana, Grand Junction and Rippey, as well as the Greene County Board of Supervisors and their Louis Dreyfus account, Neese Incorporated, Peoples Bank and Home State Bank.
