Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has many events this month, with one program that will re-connect with the area schools happening in the next week.

Extension Youth Coordinator Rachel Blum mentions that they are starting their library programs back up this month, with visits to the Casey Public Library and Mary J Barnett Memorial Library in Guthrie Center. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that for Computer Science Week, she and Alexa Groff, a state specialist, will be visiting the schools in Guthrie County for a fun coding class.

“It’s called ‘Hour of Code.’ So for an hour they’ll be coding, and I believe we are going to do it on their computer. It’s like code.org. We’re gonna be doing different versions for different grades, so there’s like a Minecraft one and then a robotics one. And so we are excited just to pop into every classroom and look and see what they are doing and having fun with Computer Science Week.”

Blum mentions that she and Groff will be at Guthrie Center Elementary on Tuesday December 10th, at Adair – Casey Elementary on December 11th and at West Central Valley Elementary on December 12th.
