The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday evening in regular session.

The meeting started with a public hearing about the update of the funded activities with the upper story housing project for 100 East State Street with The Centennial building. Karla Janning with Region XII Council of Governments said the city received a $435,000 grant to build two rental units that the group, Why Not Us owns. She stated that about $251,000 of the total project cost was expended and that 53 percent of the units were completed. Janning added that the project is well ahead of the anticipated completion date of 2026.

Next, the Council approved a plat of survey for Tyler Hunter to split off a parcel of agricultural land that is just north of Sparky’s One Stop Gas Station. They also approved an application for a grant through a federal firefighter assistance program where Jefferson Fire Chief Jack Williams noted that they need to replace their 1994 truck. He said he found an identical truck that is a 2014 model for an estimated $465,000 and if approved would pay for about 95 percent of the cost. The Council also approved the low bid from Sebourn Video Services of $200 per regular council meeting to continue providing videography services. Following a short update from Greene County Development Corporation, the Council also approved their quarterly funding request.

During reports, it was mentioned that the light poles at the pickleball court will be installed mid-December but that the playing surface will not be added to the cured concrete until next spring.
