The Guthrie County Secondary Roads Department has had a busy construction season.

Guthrie County Engineer Josh Sebern says that over the last year, they’ve done a lot of work on culverts, were able to secure some federal funding for working on some bridges, including one just north of Diamondhead Lake, along with some smaller pavement projects. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio about the work done to the bridge by Diamondhead Lake.

“That federal project, it was the bridges on the highway so it sees salt, and that salt is corrosive to steel and to the bridge structure itself. So we did some repairs to the deck and as well underneath where the bearing pads are for the steel beams. So we got a lot of those repaired. We modernized the guardrail and did some of those things on that project, a good project to ensure that bridge lasts a lot longer.”

Sebern mentions that some of the work on the projects is contracted out, but that a lot of work is also done by his crews with Secondary Roads. He mentions that one of the big pavement projects that they did was filling ruts on White Pole Road in and around Stuart.
